NHSBT Cambridge Footpath
Project Summary – Footpath & Barrier Installation at NHSBT Cambridge
The Ashco team recently completed a footpath and safety barrier installation project at the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) site in Cambridge.
Footpath Works:
-
Underground Utility Survey:
The works began with a detailed scan of the underground area using a CAT scanner to identify and avoid existing utilities. -
Excavation & Preparation:
The team carried out machine excavation to a depth of 250mm. The base of the excavated area was levelled and compacted using a vibrating plate. All surplus excavated material was removed from site. -
Sub-base & Concrete Installation:
A geotextile membrane was laid to stabilise the ground, followed by backfilling with imported hardcore to make up levels. Concrete was then mixed and laid to a 100mm thickness, reinforced with a mesh layer for durability. -
Ramp Formation:
The pathway was completed with the installation of a 3-metre concrete ramp section adjacent to the kerb to ensure smooth and accessible transitions.
Armco Barrier Installation:
-
In addition to the footpath works, the team installed a 6-metre Armco barrier along the lorry parking section next to the pathway.
-
The post holes were excavated to the required depth, and metal support posts were set in concrete to ensure a secure and lasting installation.
