Ashco Building and Maintenance Services is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in accordance with UK Government policy.

This Carbon Reduction Plan sets out our baseline emissions, current performance, and our approach to reducing emissions across all relevant scopes.

3. Methodology for Calculating Emissions

Ashco Building & Maintenance Services collects activity data and calculates greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. UK Government GHG conversion factors are applied annually for performance review and reporting.

Organisational Boundary

Ashco applies the operational control approach to define its organisational boundary, capturing all sources over which the company has operational authority.

Activity Data Collection

  • Scope 1 fleet emissions: derived from actual odometer/fleet management records for all 14 company vehicles
  • Scope 1 heating: derived from fuel purchase invoices for the office premises
  • Scope 2 electricity: derived from utility invoices / estimated meter readings for the office and light workshop
  • Scope 3 categories: derived from supplier invoices, waste transfer notes, and industry-standard spend-based estimates where primary data is unavailable

Reporting Principles

Emissions data is prepared in line with the five GHG Protocol principles:

  • Relevance – all material emission sources are included
  • Completeness – all three scopes are reported
  • Consistency – the same methodology and boundary are applied year-on-year
  • Transparency – methodology and assumptions are documented
  • Accuracy – UK Government emission conversion factors are used and reviewed annually

4. Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline Year: 2023

Using Ashco fleet data and industry-standard assumptions for office energy, waste and materials.

Scope 1 – Direct Emissions

Source Detail Emissions
Company fleet (14 diesel vehicles) 140,000 miles × 0.298 kg CO₂e/mile 41.7 tCO₂e
Office heating fuel Small office, fuel invoices 1.2 tCO₂e
Total Scope 1 42.9 tCO₂e

Scope 2 – Purchased Electricity

Source Detail Emissions
Office / light workshop electricity 8,000 kWh/year × 0.182 kg CO₂e/kWh (UK grid factor) 1.5 tCO₂e
Total Scope 2 1.5 tCO₂e

Scope 3 – Indirect Emissions

Source Estimated Emissions
Purchased materials (timber, cement, aggregates) 16.0 tCO₂e
Waste disposal (skips, mixed construction waste) 1.0 tCO₂e
Water 0.2 tCO₂e
Business travel (private cars, occasional commuting) 0.8 tCO₂e
Upstream transport of materials 2.5 tCO₂e

Now that all the work on our lower terrace has been completed, I wanted to write to let you know how thrilled we are with everything. The retaining walls look wonderful and, when viewed from the river, set the house off beautifully.
Please give our thanks to Ian, Stuart, Tom, Finn, Ben and Dave - I do hope I haven’t forgotten anyone - for all their hard work during the hottest and driest weather we have had for a long time. Without exception they were a pleasure to have working here, and are a credit to Ashco
